Maple Grove’s Mike Raven started volunteering after retirement in the school where his wife worked.
“She said maybe you should come over to the school and do some work,” said Raven. “It’s just evolved and evolved.”
Today he’s a fixture at Elm Creek Elementary, volunteering everywhere from the school cafeteria to the classroom to the grounds crew. He helps put up a display on kindness every year, and he also builds a four-foot-tall paper mache cartoon character to celebrate ‘I Love to Read’ month...

New Hope Ice Arena Serves Suburbs with History, Hockey

It’s not a Saturday morning at the New Hope Ice Arena unless it’s bustling and bursting with activity. On any given week, there could be figure skating lessons, hockey practice, dance rehearsals, and a team planning to host a hockey tournament.
Many of the people involved at the rink have been working there for years.
